Links and Leather

outfit 2

One of my favorite finds at Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale is this mixed metal necklace. I’m a sucker for statement necklaces and loved the edgy, yet feminine look of this stand-out accessory. The pastel stones soften the heavy-metal look of the chain links, creating a modern necklace that can instantly glam up an outfit.

I wanted the mixed-media necklace to be the focus of my ensemble, so I paired it with a simple white tee. Staying with the edgy look, I finished the outfit with a leather skirt and lace-up booties. It’s a great feeling when you piece together an outfit that makes you feel confident and that is exactly what this outfit did for me.

Did Someone Say D’Orsay?

D'Orsay Flats

I am currently obsessed with d’Orsay flats! They are so versatile and come in a variety of styles. From Aztec and leopard print to magenta and neon yellow, the fun footwear can spice up even the most basic outfits. I like to pair the statement styles with distressed denim, a basic v-neck tee and minimal accessories so that the shoe is the focus of the look.

Color blocking is a popular trend for these flats, with the heel and toe being different colors or patterns. My favorite pair is the Steve Madden “Dateme” style with the black heel and leopard print toe. The pretty pattern and pointed toe can add a dressy touch to a casual look.

Featured picks:

  1. Cleo d’Orsay loafers from J.Crew ($168)
  2. Easy Does It flat from Chinese Laundry ($60)
  3. Frankie Leather d’Orsay flat by Rebecca Minkoff ($136)
  4. Dateme leopard flat from Steve Madden ($80)
  5. Maiden Lane Candy pointed tow flat from Gilt ($79)
  6. 3.1 Phillip Lim Devon d’Orsay flat from Shopbop ($375)
  7. Aztec print from Charlotte Russe ($23)
  8. Hawk d’Orsay flat by Franco Sarto ($79)

Boyfriend Shorts Two Ways

Boyfriend Shorts

Summer has arrived and so have the triple digits in Las Vegas. Boyfriend shorts are great for the heat because they are cool and loose, but also look stylish. The tomboy look can either be embraced with a casual ensemble or dressed up with feminine details.

For a low-maintenance look, I like to pair the distressed denim with a basic v-neck tee, which allows the shorts to stand out as the statement piece. The neutral gladiator sandals and tribal print tote add trendy touches while also keeping with the laid-back vibe. Top off the look with a straw fedora, messy side braid and classic Ray-Bans.

To balance out the “boyfriend” style, add feminine touches that will tame the trend. A simple white tank with eyelet details softens the edgy shorts. Heart-shaped sunglasses, a cognac cross-body bag and an elegant watch with rose gold accents enhance the girly, sophisticated look. Don’t forget some chic shoes! I love these pointed-toe D’orsay flats with the colorblocked heel cap and snake-print toe.

Featured picks:

  1. Ted Baker flats from Zappos.com ($93)
  2. Rag & Bone boyfriend shorts ($235)
  3. MARC BY MARC JACOBS watch from Bloomingdales (175)
  4. Metal heart shades from Nasty Gal ($22)
  5. Tribal tote from Sole Society ($60)
  6. Sandals from ModCloth ($30)

Boutiqueaholics

dress

For boutique lovers like myself, Boutiqueaholics in Las Vegas has everything you love in one container. Literally. It’s in Container Park, which is a fun retail, dining and entertainment development in Downtown Las Vegas.

Boutiqueaholics is a boutique within a boutique. Several fashion lines and stores from around the world sell their trendy pieces under one roof. Clothing from Lili Boutique, one of my favorite local shops, can also be found here. Other lines include Sugarhill from London, Growze from Los Angeles, LuxC Closet from Miami, Babel Fair from New York City and Hey Gorgeous from Orange County.

Not only are the clothes adorable, but so is the decor! I love the simple, vintage style. Using the books about high-end designers to display jewelry is such a creative idea and adds a chic touch.

Whether you are looking for a fancy frock to wear out on the town or a casual, oversized sweater, you can find it here. I love the jeweled neckline on this pale pink dress. It’s right on trend with the pastel color palette that is popular this spring.

This lace top with the subtle, sweetheart detail is a fun, feminine piece from Sugarhill. The Eiffel Tower print tank is another piece from this London-based boutique. Doesn’t it just make you want to be a jetsetter and eat colorful macarons in France ?

Floral is my favorite trend this season. The patterned sleeves take this cropped bomber jacket from being simple to making a fashion statement. It would look great paired with a basic white tank, distressed jeans and d’orsay flats or heels. These unique styles are definitely worth checking out next time you are in Las Vegas.

Home for the Holidays

Like the song says, “There’s no place like home for the holidays!” I’ve never found this so true until I was visiting Seattle last weekend. I’m not used to the sunny winters and brown scenery of Las Vegas, so it didn’t really feel like Christmas until I was able to see the green trees, gray skies and Christmas lights on the Space Needle. Below are a few photos from my quick trip.

(1) My mom still hangs stockings for all of the kids (and the three dogs) in the family. (2) My pink “J” stocking. (3) As you can tell by the frozen fountain, it was a little chilly shopping at University Village – it got down to 15 degrees! (4) Although it was cold, I had to get the salted caramel ice cream from Molly Moon’s. (5) Ok, I also had to get my favorite cupcake from Trophy (6) I was just as excited (if not more…) to see my dogs as I was my parents. (7) Muddy – our sweet, old lab.

Bootie, Bootie, Booties Rockin’ Everywhere!

Must-have fall footwear? Booties! From edgy to girly and classic to country, these chic shoes work with any style. Here are my picks for the top booties of the season.

Picture 1

Studded. For the tough girl or girly girl, these booties from Target are the perfect finishing touch to any outfit. For an edgy look, pair with leather leggings and an oversized graphic sweatshirt. To soften up the studs, pair with a feminine, floral dress.

Picture 2

Cut-outs aren’t just for dresses and tops anymore. Booties are hot on their heels with this trendy look. Dress them down with denim or up with a classic LBD. LuLu*s has a vast selection of sexy shoes, including these nude heels.

Leopard print. Take a walk on the wild side with this stand-out style. It’s important to keep your outfit simple when you wear a statement shoe. Chic skinnies, an oversized top and minimal accessories make the fancy footwear the focal point of your ensemble.

Picture 4

Lace adds instant country charm. This pair from Francesca’s is the ultimate in cowboy chic. They would look adorable with a girly skirt and chambray top.

Picture 6

Metal accents, such as the toe and buckles on these REPORT Signature booties from Nordstrom, add a fancy, sophisticated touch to simple shoes.

Peep Toe. Make sure to have on pretty polish with this contemporary cut! I got this pair from Nordstrom during the Anniversary Sale. They go with everything and add instant style to a basic dress or skinny jeans.

Oxford and menswear are also popular styles this season. This pair by Restricted from DSW has a feminine flare with the wedge, laces and cut-out.

Happy shopping!

Christmas in July… AKA Nordstrom Sale

Yes, I am talking about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! I was born a Nordies girl. Every summer my mom would hire a babysitter on that first Friday of the sale and come back with matching leggings and turtlenecks for my younger sister and I (typical ’90s fashion… so stylish). Once I was old enough to go by myself I loved to hit up opening day. With the excitement of new clothes for a new season and crowds of shoppers that are equally as eager, it’s impossible not to get into the spirit of the sale.

This pair of Halogen heels is my prized possession this year. I love that they look like booties and can be dressed up or down. They are really comfortable, too! I broke them in while working a restaurant grand opening, which might not have been a bright idea. However, after being on my feet for 6 hours I was still able to stand and even wore them again the next day.

I paired the heels with cuffed skinny jeans and a peplum top for a casual, yet trendy look. Can’t forget the studded bracelet, too!
