I’m currently working on transferring my blog to wordpress.org with a new domain, so if you could head over to treatsandtrendsblog.com and follow me there, I would really appreciate it :) It’s still a work in progress, but new posts will be up soon once it’s all figured out! Bloggers, if you have any tips on the best plugins, etc. let me know!

Thank you!

Treats and Trends Turns Two

2

It’s amazing looking back at my earliest posts and seeing how much has changed, both in my personal life and the quality of my blogging. When I started Treats and Trends in 2012, I was a recent college graduate living in a Seattle townhouse with two friends and working at a clothing boutique. Since then I have moved to Las Vegas, become engaged to my dream guy (yes, that sounds so sappy, but is also so true) and have built up my resume with jobs in PR and copy editing. In the past two years I have stepped out of my comfort zone and it has allowed me to become a strong, independent person. As much as I miss my old life in Seattle, I am proud of how much I have grown and have enjoyed blogging about life’s adventures every step of the way.

I started this blog as a hobby because I enjoy writing and wanted to share the things I am passionate about, but it has turned into much more than that. It’s a way of documenting everything from day to day activities, like cooking and crafting, to our exciting adventures and important life events. It’s also a creative outlet and gives me an excuse to try Pinterest projects, take “artsy” photos and put together fun outfits.

One of the hardest things about blogging is the photography. I love taking pretty photos and capturing the beauty in everyday life, but I don’t have formal training or a fancy camera. Through trial and error (and by following a variety of inspirational bloggers on Instagram), I feel that my skills have greatly improved, although they are far from perfect. Looking back at my first posts, the pictures were definitely not something you would see on Pinterest! My goal is to keep learning and improving to create beautiful, engaging posts similar to those on the blogs that I follow religiously.

Thank you to everyone for reading my blog and all of the supportive comments :) It means the world to me knowing that people enjoy it because it is something I am very proud of and enjoy writing. I’m excited to see what the upcoming years have in store!

“I Do” Take the Blog…

After a busy spring, I vow to be better about posting on Treats + Trends. I have so many recipes and DIY projects saved up that I want to share – my favorite being these peanut butter cookie dough Oreos!

I’ll start off with some exciting news… I’m engaged! It’s no surprise that I love chocolate, so Rob couldn’t have proposed in a more perfect way. Hope y’all don’t mind quite a few wedding posts. Let’s just say I have spent a lot of time on Pinterest this past week and have been pin-spired to get crafty! Yes, there will be Mason jars, cupcakes and cowboy boots.

DIY banners are a fun decoration for any occasion, especially when made with pretty ribbons and beautiful calligraphy. Burlap banners, which have also been popular on Pinterest, add country charm and are a favorite of mine. This dessert table from Paddington Way, complete with a DIY pom pom garland and several tiered cake stands, is a simple, stylish way to serve sweet treats this Thanksgiving.  Hello, mini pumpkin pies!

For a trendy twist on this traditional fall decoration, try DIY chevron pumpkins from My Sweet Savannah. With a little bit of paint and patience, this front porch staple is transformed from simple to stylish.

Whether you are spending your turkey day at a fancy soirée or at home dining with your family, you can’t go wrong with a simple dress paired with a sparkly statement necklace. The tailoring and conservative style of this leather dress, found on ador.com, make it look classy and feminine. A statement necklace and simple cross-body bag are the perfect accessories for this polished, sophisticated look.

Nailed it! This color-block mani featured on NailPop will match any Thanksgiving outfit. The jewel tones topped with gold studs  create a glamorous look and are perfect for fall. b974d59a22a878f6ecb6b8e00c862c29

Give thanks this Thanksgiving with customized place mats. This simple DIY project doubles as decoration and a fun activity. What am I thankful for? My family, friends, health and job, just to name a few. Plus fashion, food, Pinterest… the list could go on and on.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Pinterest Picks

When I have blogger’s block, I look to Pinterest for inspiration. Whether it’s a DIY project or a recipe for brownies baked in a mason jar, it never disappoints. The only problem is that I don’t have enough time to try everything! Here are some of my favorite pins, which I hope to try in the future or just get my creative juices flowing.

The statement necklace is subtle and blends perfectly with the leopard-print shirt, which brings me to the second thing I love – the trendy tee. The pattern looks classy, not cheap or trashy. Finally, I love the pop of color the blue clutch brings to the outfit. I would never think of pairing the royal blue color with this look, but it’s such a fun addition! My new style goal is to add an unexpected pop of color to an otherwise neutral outfit.

I have an unhealthy obsession with cupcakes. These twinkling treats from Stay At Home Chic make me want to bake up a storm. The polka dot wrappers and ruffled-edge cake stand are adorable!

Gorgeous nails! I love the nude base with gold tips and one nail with glitter! It’s simple, shimmery and stylish!

With the holidays coming up, these handmade mugs would make for great gifts! There’s nothing like a cup of peppermint hot chocolate, a cozy blanket and Christmas lights to get you into the holiday spirit! Check out Wit and Whistle for the full tutorial.

I love dogs, especially labs, so I could scroll through the puppy pages for hours. All of the adorable photos make me miss my two dogs at home in Washington. There’s nothing like a goofy, loving pup to brighten your day!

Happy Pinning!

My Week Through Instagram #SundayFunday

Because I have been so busy lately, I haven’t been able to post to my blog every day like I hope to. Plus, I don’t have the time to cook and bake everyday :( so to make up for this lack of sharing, I’ve decided to post a few of the highlights from this past week (or two). You can also follow Treats and Trends on Instagram at @TreatsandTrends!

Last Friday, Ryan Lochte was in Las Vegas celebrating his 29th birthday. He had dinner at SHe by Morton’s, which is a stylish steakhouse that I do PR for. It was my first celebrity experience in Vegas/PR. It’s crazy how much time, effort and money goes in to one celebrity eating at a restaurant.

The best part about a new job? Target “school supply shopping,” of course! I get really excited over organizing new folders and picking out crisp, fresh notebooks.

Monday was National Cupcake Day, so I used this as an excuse to bake some sweet treats! These banana chocolate chip cupcakes with chocolate frosting turned out really well!

A large portion of my job involves food. Whether it’s writing about it or eating it, I’ve enjoyed exploring the amazing restaurants in Las Vegas. I’ve learned to try new things and not be afraid of the unknown, such as this Angus Beef Carpaccio from TENDER Steak & Seafood. I’d never had it before, but it was very tasty!

Happy Sunday Funday, readers! :)

Loving Bloglovin’

20130707-183652.jpg

Bloglovin‘ is one convenient place to read all of your favorite blogs — and discover new ones! With so many amazing blogs out there, it’s impossible to keep up with them all. However, this wonderful website alerts you of new posts from blogs you follow and combines the latest posts into a news feed that is easy to browse through. There is even an iPhone app, so you can browse while you’re bored. My favorite feature is that it lists the most popular blogs in each category, such as fashion, crafts, travel, wedding, etc. I love discovering new blogs and seeing how creative and unique each one is. I hope people enjoy discovering mine, too :)

You can click the button below to follow Treats and Trends on bloglovin’! Thanks!
